The Mid West Academy of Sport (MWAS) held its annual scholarship function in Geraldton on Friday evening. Over thirty scholarship recipients were in attendance, together with representatives from the state and local governments.

Three (3) scholarship holders were inducted from the swimming community, including;

* Flynn Scott - Athlete

* Craig Scott - Coach

* Nick Short - Official

The Scotts are a ‘father and son’ combination from the Geraldton Amateur Swimming Club. Flynn has a highly productive State Open and Age State Championships inn December and his father Craig believes he has the potential to swim even faster.

“It is not easy to develop talent when you live in regional WA, so the fact that the MWAS are prepared to help Flynn and myself is very much appreciated," Mr Scott said.

"The Club is working hard to identify talent in the Mid West and develop as best we can, so the MWAS’s support will go a long way tho finding more talented swimmers like Flynn."

Swimming WA CEO Mr Darren Beazley attended the function and was glowing in his praise.

“The Academy is a fantastic initiative and I applaud Gary Clark and Matin Fitzsimmons for the great work that they are doing for all sports, not just swimming," he said.

"I am also delighted that scholarships extend to Officials such as Nick Short also as they are the lifeblood of our sport. All three scholarship holders are very worthy recipients and whilst there is no substitute for hard work, the support of the MWAS is very much appreciated by Swimming WA.

"I wish Flynn, Craig and Nick the very best of productive year and have no doubt that we’ll seer some improved performances word the end of the year."
